May 2014 - Carnival Sunshine to Caribbean - Southern
Carnvial boast heavly about their "2.0 fun ship" experience but it didn't do much for us. This is the cruise for the masses and havily aimed at family with kids. Evening entertainment just wasn't there for us, we found it very dull. Three stage shows, a comedy show every night, and not much else to do. The liquid lounge was mostly empty. Food was average but wait times were very long. The upscale dinning was great as was the complete Havana section. It didn't seem to matter what time of the day, the Havana area had great everything morning till night. The boat refurbishment was geared towards the public areas so don't consider this a "new" boat. The serenity area was small with limited seating. This is a great boat for families with little kids. If your single looking for fun, this is NOT the boat for you. If your retired, and want a lot of evening entertainment, this is NOT the boat for you. If you have kids and what them busy from sun up to sun down...this IS THE BOAT FOR YOU.
Also, if you have kids be sure to do scheduled dinning and go for the early dinning. Anytime dinning will take about 30mins to an hour wait.
The land excursions were lovely, getting on and off the boat at the islands or at Cape Canavrial are a very easy. Dinks cost $8 to $10 bucks so be prepared. Recommend bringing your own booze. This is done by filling plastic flask, or by filling soda bottles using new caps. You can buy new bottle caps anywhere. We brought on six 750ml of booze and still had a $450 bar tab.
Though my review of Carnival is negitive, its purpose to understand that cruise lines target different audiences. We just picked the wrong cruise line and ship. Our next cruise will be Celebrity.
