July 2015 - Carnival Inspiration to Mexico
I have been on multiple cruises with multiple cruise lines (including Carnival), but this cruise was by far the worst trip I have ever had for four reasons:
1) The service and general attitude of staff on board was very negative. The immediate staff that I dealt with were actually nice( cabin stewart & waiters), but everyone else was horrendous. No one ever smiles and it is very obvious how miserable they all feel working there... Kind of a downer.
2) They advertise a drinking program called Cheers which is supposed to be a deal for those who plan on drinking a lot. All you hear from all the staff is to purchase the Cheers program...Basically, how the Cheers program works is you pay a flat fee of $50 per day and you are allotted 15 drinks in a 24 hour period. What they don't mention is that you are completely cut-off an unable to even purchase a drink after you have hit the 15 mark in a day. I know this is not an issue for most, but I am a very large individual and spending an entire day of vacation drinking will have me easily exceeding 15 drinks a day. But I was not made aware of this when I purchased the Cheers program and it ended up being one of the more embarrassing experiences because I was told by the bartenders on the boat that I was not able to purchase anymore drinks! I was told this in front of females, people I had just met, and others waiting at the bar for a drink so needless to say; it wasn't fun. Since I was not allowed to even purchase a drink anymore, I then spent the rest of the night trying to convince random people to buy me a drink if I gave them the cash because I was relatively sober!!
3) We had the dining room experience from hell! Sitting directly across from us were a series of two large tables with a total of about 30 people. These people were there celebrating a bachelor party, and made sure the whole ship knew it. I have never been around such loud, rude and inconsiderate people in my life. I understand people can get rowdy at a bachelor party and drinks never really help keep a large crowd calm, but they were beyond overboard. Every single night they grew worse and worse. Many of them attended dinner in a mask, which is extremely creepy. Not even sure why masks would be allowed on board. Then, they all thought it would be funny if they had whistles and blew them every minute on the minute during dinner. On top of that, every 5-10 minutes, they would begin singing some inappropriate song (very loudly) that they shouldn't even be singing in a family setting, while banging on the table with both fists as loud as they can. Our waiter tried asking them to be quiet many times, but the maitre d' or top people in charge NEVER told them to keep it down or stop. NOT ONCE! Obviously the people didn't listen because it wasn;t coming from anyone with authority. Carnival should have stepped in and down something to help the situation because it was very clear the surrounding tables were not happy and one party almost got into a physical altercation with them because of it.
4) The entire ship, including your actual stateroom smells horrible. It smells like actual excrement everywhere you go.
Bottom line is that I do not feel I should have paid for this trip. We save up for a long time and spend a lot of time planning these things, and this cruise was the biggest let down ever. I am not sure if I would ever give Carnival another try unless they compensate me for this, which I seriously doubt.
Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!
