Riviera

October 2016 - Riviera to Europe - Mediterranean

Cruise of A Lifetime

If you can imagine a dream come true, you will understand how it feels to cruise Greece, from Athens to Crete, with visits to the islands of Santorini, Katakolon and Corfu.  The cruise line Oceania's ship Riviera was my dream vessel.  Imagine a veranda stateroom with a shower and bathtub; breakfast en suite so my roommate and I were on time for our morning excursions or tours; back to the ship for a delicious buffet lunch in a Terrace restaurant, unless we preferred the Waves Grill.  We enjoyed elegant afternoon tea service in a beautiful Horizons lounge with live chamber music; stayed for cocktail hour (two for the price of one drink).  Later we relished magnificent cuisine in one of four specialty restaurants (French, Italian, East Asian, or Lobster/Steak Grill) or chose a Grand Dining Room banquet.  We liked meeting other interesting passengers at a shared table, rather than choosing to dine together. Then we attended an evening show of superb singing, dancing, costumes and sets in the main Lounge.  We also had the options of a library, computer room, pool/deck, spa and exercise equipment, concerts, dancing, bars, a casino and classes.  Everything was first class at competitive prices.  I asked servers and entertainers about their working conditions.  All of them praised the cruise line for treating them with consideration so they felt rested, well and happy to please us passengers.  The boarding procedures are so well organized that there were no lines or delays (unlike cruises I've taken where we stood in lines within airplane hanger-like sheds with thousands of others who were equally unhappy).  The Oceania mid-size ships are able to dock in or near unique ports and are ecologically less damaging to the ocean and coastal environments.  Wherever in the world you long to visit, I wish you my heavenly experience.  Barbara O'Farrell, NYC bo1@columbia.edu  (despite my 'retiree' message, I check email every day.)

Riviera

March 2016 - Riviera to Caribbean

Perfect Cruise

At dinner in one of the four specialty restaurants on our Oceania ship MS Riviera, the question was asked, "Why do you say Oceania is the perfect cruise line?"  I appreciated being met at the airport, driven to a hotel for an overnight, then my luggage was picked up and I was driven to the ship where boarding was spread over a period of time so that I never had to stand in a line.  Every person associated with the cruise was pleasantly helpful; the staff called me Madam and pampered me endlessly.  The cuisine was superb, the service was impeccable, and the seven dining rooms were beautiful.  Tea time with music, cocktail hour, and show-time were daily treats.  All meals, tips and beverages were included (except alcohol).  In every Port, we were tendered to shore or driven to the old-town area.  All local tours were well scheduled and final disembarkation was smoothly orderly.  Oceania's was the best organized cruise I've enjoyed.  Every detail was perfect.

Cruiser847's Tips

Key West, Florida - Hop on-off trolley and bus tours of the entire island and back on the ship for a late lunch. Key West is historic, unusual for it's age, and easy to enjoy.
Miami, Florida - Delicious dinner and breakfast on the outdoor terrace of Catch restaurant at the beautiful Biscayne Bay Marriott.
Trujillo, Honduras - Very warm weather, lots of island poverty; but great views and history. Encouraging effort to improve economy through tourism.
Belize City, Belize - Missed our independent tour (too early). Allow time for docking, tender ride to shore and getting to meeting site. Next time, I'll book an Oceania tour and not lose tour/money.
Cozumel, Mexico - Went to the beach for sun and lunch. It's beautiful, clean and lunch was delicious. A favorite.
Riviera Riviera - On the MS Riviera eet interesting and friendly fellow cruisers. Expect the loveliest pampering of your life, 24/7 room service, lounging on a beautiful pool deck, boutique shops, spa and gym, library, computer room, culinary and other classes, never having to pack a suitcase until disembarkation.
