Celebrity Silhouette

December 2014 - Celebrity Silhouette to Caribbean - Eastern

Loved the ship but not the music

For some unknown reason this Holiday Cruise featured Motown and Soul music all over the ship. The fellow passengers did not look to me like they would be fans of this type of music.  Other then the music, the ship is great. Decorated nicely for the Holidays with lots of Xmas trees.  We could not stop in San Juan due to the ship's engine trouble but they gave us a shipboard credit to make up for it. This was not a problem with us since we had been to San Juan many times. But for those passengers that had not bee there, I am sure it was a disapointment.

Neptune Suite makes all the difference in the world!!

We sprung for a Neptune Suite not knowing just how great the perks were.  They started by special boarding privileges, then all the Champagne we wanted in the Neptune Lounge embarkation day and finally a super large Suite with king size bed. Plus a super large balcony with 2 lounges chairs w/ottomans and a table with 4 chairs.

The Neptune Lounge, only open  to those of us that had a Neptune Suite, was great. We had breakfast there each morning and a snack every afternoon. The two person staff there took care of everything we could ask for. It was my birthday on this cruise and they decorated our cabin with balloons and happy birthday signs. Printed out our bill anytime we wanted too.  In fact, we hardly ever had to go to the reception desk for anything.

They made reservations for us in the specialty restaurants and even took back our books to the library.  The lounge was never crowed and very comfy.

Now we are spoiled and will always remember the "Royal Treatment" the Neptune Suite provided.

The Best of the Solstice Class Ships so Far

Let me start by saying that my wife and I have been cruising since 1977 and have been on over 100 cruises.  This includes just about all the cruise lines. We switched to Celebrity a few years ago and have sailed on the Equinox and Eclipse.  Both were very good but the Silhouette is now our favorite. The other two ships were very nice but the Silhouette is even better.

The Hot Glass Show on the top deck has been replaced by the Lawn Club Grille.  The Glass show is nice but after you see it once, it is just wasted space.  The Lawn Club Grille can be enjoyed more than once and is a lot of fun.  The wine cellar has been improved. The bar has been removed and there is more space there.

The crew is very friendly and the service great.  The Captain was able to dock in Labadee even in very high seas and wind. And had the good sense to leave early when it became a little too rough.

We liked the Silhouette so much that we just booked another cruise on it for the Holidays.

Amsterdam

December 2012 - Amsterdam to Caribbean - Southern

Nice Holiday Cruise

The Amsterdam was decked out for the Holidays. Christmas trees everywhere.. Santa came on Christmas morning and the kids loved it. He gave out toys and posed for photos. Sail away parties at most ports were very nice also. Tables for 2 were hard to come by in all the restaurants except the Pinnacle. Eat there as often as you can afford it ($25 pp)

Celebrity Eclipse

October 2012 - Celebrity Eclipse to Transatlantic

Need more tables for two.

Our biggest complaint was that we are a couple that likes to dine alone and with some privacy. Just about every restaurant on the ship, including the main dining room, had tables for 2 that were on top of other people. We could not carry on a private conversation. The Italian Steak House was the only one that we could be just the two of us at dinner. We asked for a table for 2 but they always gave us a table on top of other people. The ship was large enough for real "tables for 2". But there were a lot of very good wine tastings. And the wine dispenser open 24 hours a day was super!

CondoKing's Tips

Celebrity Silhouette Celebrity Silhouette - I love the drink package. I always upgrade it to the Premium. That way just about all the drinks are covered. Nice not to have to pay for water and smoothies. Sunset Veranda location is nice and quiet in the back of the ship.
Ocho Rios, Jamaica - As usual, the merchants are very aggressive but don't let that bother you.
Eurodam Eurodam - If you can afford it, get a Neptune Suite. It is like being on a different ship from the rest of the passengers.
Celebrity Silhouette Celebrity Silhouette - If you get the Classic Wine Package as a perk for booking, spend the extra $10 pp per day to upgrade to the Premium Package. Well worth it. Also, get water at the bars and put in your cabin frig.
Amsterdam Amsterdam - Spend the extra $25 pp and go to the Pinnacle Club for dinner. The food is so much better as is the service. Book 1st or 2nd seating for dinner in the main dining room. Open seating was a hassle.
Amsterdam Amsterdam - Book a cabin on the Veranda deck. You can just walk a few steps and go outside. Sit there and watch the ocean- all without paying for a balcony.
Celebrity Eclipse Celebrity Eclipse - Forget about dining in your cabin unless you have a large suite. The only table was too small for any meals. Also, if you want to put your feet up and watch TV you need to bring in a chair from the balcony- if you have one. But the wine room was super!
