Crown Princess

March 2018 - 8 Night Southern Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip) Cruise on Crown Princess

Amazing ABC Islands Cruise

We very much enjoyed our cruise. While the menu choices were quite limited, the selections were all excellent. Our stateroom was on the small side. It made us think that either a mini suite (we sailed the Ruby in one, it was a deal - this past January) on Princess ships or maybe going back to Carnival is the next choice we will make. We have an Alaska cruise coming in August on the Celebrity Solstice - that will be our first Celebrity cruise so we have to reserve final judgement until then.

Norwegian Jewel

March 2017 - 7 Night Mexican Riviera (Los Angeles Roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Jewel

Great Mexican Riviera Cruise

We loved Cabo!  So changed over the last 7 years - and for the better!  What a fun place to be!  You have to ignore the folks trying to sell you water cruises, cigars and cookies, though. That was a little bothersome, but it didn't put a damper on our enjoyment.  Beautiful harbor full of gorgeous yachts! Mazatlan's terminal shops were fine, we found very nice things there.  No need to go into town. Puerto Vallarta - we have been there a couple of times and found no need to go downtown. We shopped at the street vendors outside the ship.

Carnival Inspiration

January 2017 - 4 Night Catalina & Baja Mexico (Los Angeles Roundtrip) Cruise on Carnival Inspiration

Fun Cruise to Baja!

While the weather wasn't really sunny and warm until Ensenada, we still had a great time on this little cruise. Our intention was to relax and we did. We didn't even get off the ship as we had been to these ports before. Our only disappointment was the balcony for our Jr. Suite on 11. It was the tiniest one we've ever seen -- but, as the weather wasn't great --  it wasn't really an issue for us. It was never noted anywhere, though, that there were big crane like pieces in front of the balcony, probably why the area was so small. It didn't obstruct our view but it did make it hard to take photos from the balcony.

Carnival Legend

June 2016 - 7 Night Alaska Tracy Arm Fjord (Seattle Roundtrip) Cruise on Carnival Legend

Loved this cruise, loved this ship!

Getting close to the huge glacier in Endicott Fjord was breathtaking. Watching whales was marvelous. The Skagway White Pass Train ride up to the border of Canada is not to be missed!  Alaska is a beautiful state and we only saw a little bit of it, need to go back!  The Legend was the perfect size ship, not like the bigger ones. Hardly a wait for breakfast at the Lido deck's buffets, even at lunch on sea days it was painless. The staff is so very friendly, the food was delicious. My only comment on that is the menu doesn't change from ship to ship at all, it would be nice to have different ones. We had wonderful waiters and an attentive room steward. Afternoon trivia games and bean tosses were fun, no outdoor activities due to colder weather, but that's okay. Embarkation was a breeze as was debarkation, best we've seen so far on any of our cruises with Carnival! Organized excursions -- in Skagway, there were 3 different train rides. 30 minutes in advance, they asked all ticket holders to meet in the theater, sorting them out to the train ride they were taking. We left one group at a time -- this avoided that hectic looking around and crowds outside the ship. They did this in all ports with popular excursions. They did everything right!  Would sail on that ship again in a heartbeat, but would like to spend more time in Juneau and Ketchikan, that's all.

Carnival Dream

January 2016 - 7 Night Eastern Caribbean (New Orleans Roundtrip) Cruise on Carnival Dream

Wonderful Trip!

Our Embarkation was quite good, the new "appointment style" worked very well. We did arrive sooner than our 12:30 appointment, since we had to check out of our hotel before noon and all, so we figured on waiting outside for awhile. We were there only a few minutes before our time was called, 15 minutes early!  The Dream was a very nice ship, we were very pleased with the service and the way bartenders in our favorite bar, The Lanai, knew our names and used them all week long. The food was absolutely delicious!  We signed up for Your Time Dining, as we have the previous two cruises. But, this time, we experienced long lines and long wait times, especially for the first formal night. We made reservations at the Chef Art Steakhouse for the second formal night just to avoid the long wait at Your Time. Could it be that the slot has become so popular that these lines are now a regular problem?  It wasn't the end of the world, we waited at the Atrium bar and had a glass of wine. By the time Saturday came around, we hardly had a wait at all, strange!  The Steakhouse was over the top, we felt as though we were in a posh San Francisco restaurant, very intimate. We did wonder why some others in the room didn't know it was formal night, though! Our Room Steward was always around and very helpful. Our cabin was a balcony on Lido Deck, we have been there the last two cruises, too, great location and no noise at all. I only wish the weather had been better, we really looked forward to warm, sunny days, but that cannot be helped, of course!  We loved New Orleans, we stayed there three days before the cruise left. All in all, a great vacation!Big Smile

Carnival Magic

September 2014 - 7 Night Western Caribbean (Galveston Roundtrip) Cruise on Carnival Magic

Christine1051's Tips

Crown Princess Crown Princess - It's going into Dry Dock -- ours was the last cruise to the ABC Islands this year, too. I think the work they are doing will be an improvement but I'd have to reserve judgement until we see it again. I do know they are tearing up the shopping area -- maybe they will put in all on one floor? That would be a great improvement!
Oranjestad, Aruba - We took the Semi Submarine Excursion. Our only disappointment was not getting enough of the shipwreck that we only passed at the start, they couldn't go back to it due to the number of divers in the area. We also visited the big rock area there, I climbed to the top, it's kind of hard to do with a very low rock ceiling to go under. Also the Natural Bridges, nice gift shop there, too. Aruba has some really nice branded stores like Gucci, Prada, but we did not go there.
Willemstad, Curacao - Great walking town! No excursion, we walked on our own and bought a few things. Had lunch at the Royal Dutch Cheesery, quite good. Note that they list the food on your receipt in Dutch funds and only the total at the very bottom is USD. Be careful, as you could pay more if you don't pay attention.
Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida - We stayed at the Ramada Port Hotel. Older rooms but certainly comfortable. Free breakfast, free wifi and free transport to and from port and airport. Fun Tiki Bar there and a very nice pool area. We ate at two wonderful restaurants for dinner -- one, The Rendezvous, within walking distance of the hotel, we had two dinners there and one lunch. We took the Water Taxi one day - what a great trip it was! We went to the Doubletree Hotel at the end of the route for lunch and had a really nice, delicious, reasonably priced meal! Fun city, wouldn't mind going back!
Bonaire, Netherlands Special Municipality - Bonaire was a town we walked through. Found a very nice jewelry store that was on the ship's list, the jewelry company's VP was there, too! Great deals were had there!
Norwegian Jewel Norwegian Jewel - Aft elevators were least busy. We liked the Garden Cafe part that was Aft, smaller and cozier, with the same buffet offerings. The Cucina is open for overflow, that's a delightful place! There are afternoon snacks, even salads, at The Great Outdoors, nice if you have a late dinner!
Carnival Inspiration Carnival Inspiration - We chose to take our bags with us the morning of debarkation as we had to drive home to Northern California. We no sooner got downstairs than we were called to go. We arrived at the lounge just before 7 am (had time for bfst at the buffet) and we were on the road at 7:30! Amazing!
Ketchikan, Alaska - It was raining heavily there, but we left too early to enjoy the town when the rain and clouds lifted around noon time!
Victoria, British Columbia - We didn't arrive there until after dinner, we just didn't have a lot of interest in it as we are not "night" people, really.
Juneau, Alaska - Get all the all day pass on the Tram. Only thing was the service at the restaurant at the top, we were ignored. Nice gift shop. See the Bald Eagle there, too.
Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska - Tracy Arm was too full of ice still, we did Endicott Fjord, it was beautiful. You wouldn't be disappointed!
Skagway, Alaska - White Pass Train is not to be missed! Great stories along the way.
Carnival Legend Carnival Legend - If you like a smaller ship and don't mind the absence of outside decks, this is the perfect ship. The theme is Legends, there's a huge picture and description of Buffalo Bill in one stairwell, there's a great photo of MGM stars and personnel in one of the hallways. Lots of things to see and do!
Carnival Dream Carnival Dream - The Chef Art Steakhouse was absolutely wonderful, can't say enough about it! And, I really don't understand how folks can diss the dining room food, it was great, every bit of it. Beautifully presented and delicious. Lido Deck Buffet "The Gathering" was pretty good, too, no complaints!
Nassau, Bahamas - We were asked to stay within tourist areas, though. We should have booked the Paradise Island excursion, we heard good things about it.
Key West, Florida - Wear walking shoes -- if it's windy, wear waterproof shoes! We walked to the end of the pier from the ship, about 1.5 miles. Had Margaritas at the Original Margaritaville, too!
