p bGuide to Singles cruising on the Norwegian Epic /b p p Here is a guide of what you can expect when cruising on your own the NCL Norwegian Epic. I know some people can be apprehensive when it comes to traveling on your own, though this guide is intended to ease those worries from my own personal experience. Here goes hellip; p p My first impressions of my studio cabin were that it was cosy and very well designed. I loved the coloured lighting and deacute;cor. The cabin, although very compact on 1supst/sup viewing, had more than enough space for my suitcase and other luggage and was very comfortable in the short time I spent in it. p At the start of the day I would typically be in the lounge area, which is only for those travelling in the studio cabins. This dedicated area is a great idea as it makes it a lot easier to meet other guest that are travelling alone and really takes the edge off the awkwardness of approaching people and meeting others for the 1supst/sup time. This is where I made 2 really nice people, James and Rebecca, who I will certainly keep in touch with. The three of us would often see shows together, accompany each other on shore excursions and dine together. it was my 1st a href=http://www.lovecruise.co.uk/cruises-from-barcelona target=_blank title=Cruises from BarcelonaCruise from Barcelona/a and the flight went well considering i#39;m not a huge fan of flying. My 1supst/sup port of call was Florence. I arranged to meet James and Rebecca in the singles lounge and we made our way to the shore excursion deck, where the 3 of us booked an excursion to see the leaning tower of Pisa. Disembarking the ship was a breeze and we were escorted to our waiting mini bus for our transfer to the Leaning tower. The transfer went without any major hitches, though we were grateful for the air conditioning as the weather was sweltering outside. After a covering up with lashings of sun lotion, we saw the leaning tower and ate pasta at a small Italian eatery close by. The whole excursion took up most of the day and by the time we returned to the ship the long day and hot weather had taken a lot out of us. We had a small meal at the Garden Cafeacute; and retreated to our cabins for an early night. The next day the ship called at Civitavecchia. I was up early and met James and Rebecca in the lounge area, where we again went to the Garden cafeacute; where we drank tea and ate croissants before heading to the shore excursion desks. There were around 100 people at the shore excursion desk, though to the credit of the staff on board they processed the long line of people very quickly and we only waited around 20 minutes. Between the 3 of us we decided on the ldquo;Rome through the eyes of Julius Ceasar Tourrdquo;. Again the tour guides were very professional and we were away from the port without any fuss. Again, the weather was very hot and we arrived at our first stop about an hour and a half after leaving the port. The tour was centered on the remarkable Roman Forum, the central area around which ancient Rome developed. Some of the monuments are stunning works of architecture, with the centre piece being the Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre of the Roman era. p p James took the opportunity to capture this wonderful creation with his digital camera, though I somewhat naively forgot to pack my camera and wasnrsquo;t prepared to pay the extortionate prices local vendors were charging for a disposable one (up to 30 euros in some places). The tour included lunch and our tour guide, who spoke excellent English, told us some funny stories from past tours over pasta and white wine. The coach journey back was a breeze as the weather had cooled significantly. I arrived back sporting a sun kissed glow after hours in the sun. That evening James retreated to his Cabin for another early night and me and Rebecca went to see the evening showing of the Blue Man Group. The theatre on board was packed, though we managed to get some seats about 5 rows from the front of the show. The show was extremely good, with their mix of music, comedy and theatrics thrilling the crowd. I was really impressed, it seems like NCL has really raised the bar in cruise ship entertainment by getting world renowned acts like the Blue Man Group to perform on their ships. The Day after was just a relaxing day at sea which me and my newly made friends spent soaking up the sun on the top deck. We swam and had some cocktails at the bar, and for the most part just relaxed and told stories whilst lying reclined on our sun loungers. Our Last port of Call was Palma, Majorca the following day. Again we met up in the singles lounge area, though this time we agreed we would depart the ship and spend the day on a nice beach. At the port there are a lot of Taxirsquo;s waiting, so we jumped in one and headed to the nearest beach. The taxi driver recommended a beach called Es Coll D#39;en Rabassa, which was a beautiful, quiet beach where we relaxed for a few hours before making our way back to the ship around early evening time. p p This was was our last night before our a href=http://www.lovecruise.co.uk/ target=_blank title=LoveCruise.co.ukcruise/a ended the next day, so the 3 of us took the opportunity to have a final farewell meal in the teppanyaki restaurant. The restaurant was spectacular, with chefs preparing the food right in front of you, and it turned out to be a very entertainment evening. After several glasses of red whit, we all stumbled back to our cabins at just after midnight. We all exchanged contact details on the morning we were disembarking the ship, and the 3 of us regularly keep in touch and have all booked up to take a cruise on the same ship next year, though this year we are going one step further and exploring the Caribbean together. p p Just to summarise, The NCL Norwegian Epic is a must for the single passenger who wants to meet other like minded singles on a cruise and loves brilliant entertainment, Great destinations and wonderful dining. The singles lounge is the perfect setting where singles can feel comfortable meeting other solo travelers and is great idea from NCL. I canrsquo;t wait for next time. p p Chris Stevens p
