Celebrity Horizon

The 7 night Western Caribbean cruise on Horizon was our first. Leaving from Tampa, the embarkation was practically flawless and we were underway without any problems. Our outside stateroom was located on the Atlantic Deck, the lowest passenger deck on Horizon, so we had some reservations before sailing that the accommodations might be noisy, too far below, etc., but we were very satisfied in every respect. The housekeeping and overall room services were outstanding, the Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast and lunch food service was good - we chose to eat cafeteria style rather than eating in the formal dining room. This allowed us more flexibility including getting in and out of the dining room faster, but the food was only average. Overall, there were several choices provided for where and what to eat. Dinner, on the other hand, was always a very, very pleasant experience. All of our dinner mates (10 couples) at our table were interesting, friendly, animated, and having fun, so we did too. The food was above average, with certain courses rated outstanding. Especially tasty were the sherberts (passionfruit was a particular favorite), available for dessert. Other higher calorie dessert versions were also available, with the most outstanding being the baked Alaska on Friday evening. But more than the good food and the good company, the wait staff were exceptional. If you have the opportunity to sail on Horizon, you must ask for Jason, head waiter, and Suzanna, the assistant waiter. I hope they stay together as a team for awhile - they were good! From food to entertainment is a big leap, but the variety of singers, dancers, musicians, comedians and their supporting cast was well done. The group that performed during the day on the Pool Deck, and later Rock & Roll music for 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's night were very talented, as were the musicians who played dance, swing, and show music for some of the shows throughout the week. Very talented comedians who performed on several nights got high ratings. The evening entertainment was a great way to cap off the day before retiring. We didn't hear much about programs for kids because we didn't see them much during the week. We know they went off somewhere to do something, and we heard they were having a good time. That was great for us. We're having our grandchildren for Christmas and that will be enough kids for awhile. Horizon is smaller we're told, and therefore, more intimate and personal. We thought it was just right.
