July 2016 - 7 Night Western Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip) Cruise on Carnival Glory
Awesome port! BEAUTIFUL blue water! Submarine excursion was amazing!!!! Margaritas are the best I've ever had!! Shopping was the best on this western cruise. Definitely my favorite port next to Roatan!! Love, love, love!!
Very disappointed. The port area is not nice at all... very run down looking. We did not plan an excursion at this port. Nothing to do here otherwise. We did walk out past the port gates into the city and very poor and run down and quite scary looking to me. While walking along the streets, shop people would holler at you wanting you to buy there stuff. I don't like that! Police were out past the port gates. I did not feel safe there at all. The most memorable things about this port for me is the beautiful jade green water and the conch shell and handmade shell jewelry I purchased from a very nice man and woman (who did not harass me to buy anything) at their shop inside the port. $5 for the conch shell that they personalized and $5 conch shell bracelets I purchased for souvenirs. Other stands and shops were pricey. I wanted a beautiful tote bag that had tropical colors and Belize embroidered on it...$30!!! This bag was probably made in China; didn't want to spend that much for a simple tote. I could added a little more and purchased Vera Bradley at home for that price. Definitely plan an excursion here at this port!!! The tender ride over and back to the ship was enjoyable. I don't remember it taking very long as it was a smooth ride and the water was breath taking! I rate it a 3 just because I had never been there before, the water was amazing and for my conch shell that I will cherish forever. We should have done more research on this port before we cruised. I'm thankful I got to go there and see the beauty it did offer.
