May 2015 - Viking Star (RETIRED) to Europe - Northern Europe
Rule #1 Never do a soft opening with paying quests. Paying quests are then second class with focus on the VIPs who write the reviews.
Embarkation - did not sign health statement did not collect passports we just walked on. The getting assistance for room key was a real effort. Disorganized no professional service staff untrained rude staff with actions of confusion No welcome aboard.
Food and Service – low quality food poorly served and displayed. All restaurants are same level of quality of service and food. People did not know how to serve quests and lacked attention to guest needs. Food service in World Cafe food especially where food temp not controlled and guests serves themselves leaving unappealing looking dishes. For safety staff should serve quests and keep food appearance attractive. Hot foods not hot and cold foods slightly cool.
Dining just not romantic unless you like school lunch rooms. Because of all hard surfaces noise level very high, then they have sections blocked off like cubicles in a office. Not pleasant at all. Tables are inches apart with large 8 seat mixed in.
Some food workers with gloves most handling food with no gloves. Typical case server advised me on contents of item I could not eat then changed plate handed to counter server to discard but he dumped the plate of food into serving dish mixed in the dish for other quests. Condiments had hard crust from heat lamps most dining staff not trained with no background in cruise service or customer relations. WINE Silver Package a bust- Wines on the list not on ship that was the answer. Pack your TUMS you will need it.
Rude staff will not give the quest right of way actually one staff manager almost knocked me down and did not say anything no training.
Staterooms very small 3 drawers 3 inches deep BUT you have a 4CF Frig and a wide desk chair that is too big to use in the room. Poor design wasted space. Bath room good. Entertainment fair quality venues not staffed very erratic schedule. No real stage shows boat staff does shows. Talent not professional Included excursion are ok but some of the extra excursions are over priced for the level of quality and content. Very disorganized process for assignments of busses and instructions vary on who is talking.
