This was not our first time on a cruise, but it was the first for Carnival Freedom.
We were so excited to celebrate our anniversary by traveling the Caribbean for 8 nights! Although I can say that most of the staff was very, very friendly...we however had a horrible experience the second to last night.
At 1:00am our bedroom smelled of electrical smoke and there was debris coming from the air conditioning vent. After waiting in line for 45 minutes, because the water had been shut off on the entire ship, we were finally able to address the situation. One person was in charge of everything...one. He was very rude and told us that he would have someone check our room for smoke because he could not take our word for it. Another 30 minutes goes by and the housekeeping person says they don't smell smoke, however my husband can still smell it. Why would we wake up in the middle of the night and pretend we have smoke in our room????
After repeatedly asking for a manager, he insisted there was no available rooms for us and that the manager was sleeping and he would not wake them up. But he assured us the smoke was alright to breathe in. At the same time others are calling and complaining about smoke in their rooms, so we were not the only ones. We were than told that the chief engineer said there was a broken rubber belt and it had been taken care of. So first we are liars...and than after the smoke was addressed, they offered to "refresh" our room. Which meant they came in and sprayed a ton of air freshener throughout our room.
Long story short, our safety was concerned and it was handled so poorly. I will never go on a Carnival cruise again and would tell anyone who was thinking of going on one, to find another cruise line. Bottom line, when a room starts smoking, you think they would go above and beyond to help us, instead we slept in a smoke filled room and have been offered a discount for future travels. No thanks.
