Majesty of the Seas

April 2014 - Majesty of the Seas to Caribbean - Bahamas

Read for good info on Nassau...

For my boyfriend's birthday we decided to go on a cruise to celebrate - a first for both of us. Overall, we had a good experience and learned quite a bit. When boarding the ship we had no troubles - we boarded about two hours before the ship was set to leave and were able to go straight to our room to drop off our things. We had an interior stateroom on the 5th deck - very small but acceptable considering the small amount of time spent inside. Our attendent was great - very friendly and the room was always made up upon our return.

The ship itself was a slight disappointment - very small pool, Windjammer food for lunch and breakfast were terrible but the pool decks and bars were nice. The staff were always friendly and provided great service. We had the 6:30 seating for dinner in the Starlight Dining room and the food there was GREAT. Our server, Roche, was also amazing.  As this was our first cruise we didn't realize how old this boat was or that it is the last of its design still sailing. However - once docked in Nassau next to RCL's Oasis of the Sea we realized how small and old this boat actually was!

Coco Cay was okay - definitely do not stop at the first beach area. Continue walking to the area with hammocks and paddleboarding. The food here was okay - BBQ ribs was the only thing I was able to finish. RCL staff from the boat work on Coco Cay for the day as well and still very friendly.

Our third day was in Nassau - we got off the ship and were bombarded with locals trying to sell cab rides and tours. We immediately ducked into a Starbucks to plan our day as we weren't prepared to spend the money required to visit Atlantis. Spoke to some locals who recommended the beaches to right of the boat - easily walked there and immediately decided that we did not want to stay. The beaches were rocky and dirty and 20 feet away from the busy street. We kept walking and found a friendly woman selling great frozen drinks with fresh fruit who gave us the TIP OF THE DAY: stand on any street and the #10 bus will pick you up and take you to the NICE beach - CABLE BEACH for $1.25. We hopped on, were at Cable Beach in 10 minutes and it was beautiful sandy shores.  It is the same beach that the inclusive resorts are located on (i.e.: Sandals, Breezes). We went to the right and stayed away from the inclusive resorts (although you are allowed to put your towel down on their beach). We were maybe two of 15 people on our side of the beach. We were able to walk over to the resorts and rent jet ski's where we jetted around the water to look at the resorts and saw sting rays, sea turtles and some pretty big fish. The water is amazingly clear and blue. Stayed there almost the whole day before catching the bus back for another $1.25 ride and spent the rest of the afternoon shopping.

Self assist check out the next morning was a breeze - was off the boat and through customs within 15 minutes.
