May 2016 - Norwegian Pearl to Alaska - Inside Passage
The overall cruise was outstanding as usual according to the Norweign Cruise line standards, but the company made some MAJOR changes that a first time Cruiser would have not notice. NUMBER ONE, in the Complimentary Dining room you NOW HAVE TO PAY for a lobster or Rib-eye Steak, which was included in the cruise cost before. I always looked forward to that one evening dining to have lobster on the menu - you can but you have to PAY FOR IT. I would have to rate the NCL food as five times better than Carnival, which we have sailed more than 10 times so far. And NUMBER TWO, the automatic daily gratuties (tips) charges!! NCL does not mention anything about their Gratuties policy on their brochure - but once your on board and they have your CREDIT CARD - they will charge you for EVERYTHING! I told the Purser that I always tip generously to all of the NCL Crew that serves me & my wife well. I don't LIKE THE CRUISE COMPANY TAKING THAT PERSONAL TASK FROM ME - especially since it is my MONEY! We've been told by many of our Cabin Steward that they receive less than 5% of what is being collected- and they do the majority of the daily chores. Go figure! We still keep in contact with many of the Crew members we've met on all of our past cruises on FACEBOOK!
