Weather was terrible but the staff on the ship made everything better. We were in riviera 94 our stewart Agus was AMAZING!!! He welcomed us with a smile every morning. The waiters and waitresses i. The fantasy dining room specifically, Mark, Glenn and Arnie Rose were great as well. Always smiling and calling us by name every time they saw us. They made breakfast and dinner that much better. The hostess Leslie was great as well.
Honestly, I had been waiting to go on this cruise for 5 months. So, I guess to be fair, it had a lot to live up to. However, the weather was a major issue. There was a tropical weather system around the Bahamas, and I know that Carnival has the right to redirect for our safety; but Carnival decided to chase the storm around the Bahamas. There were many times when I felt for my safety. Plus, the smell of vomit in every stairwell leaves a bit to be desired; although, the crew worked around the clock to clean. The food was good. The food service people were great. My room steward, Robby, was lovely. On the top of the weather issues, Carnival cancelled our excursion, which I had no problem with, considering the weather. But I went to discuss the weather, and if the boat excursion was in fact still on, and they laughed at me and said "yes." Then, as we ready ourselves for arrival, we get a note under the door "excursion cancelled." Thanks for the 30 minute notice. Also, getting the money back for said excursion was problematic, and quite time consuming. I'm glad I brought a copy of my receipt, or I would not have gotten my money. As an final note, we were planning to book another cruise in February with Carnival while in board; however, my family will not go with me if I book Carnival again.
We enjoyed the cruise, but the pool on our ship was way too small to actually enjoy. There were way too many people in it, and that was the only pool for kids and adults. It was standing room only, no room to swim at all! We loved the shows on the ship, and love bed the ports we stopped at. I do not recommend the excursions offered by Carnival--wait til you get to port and ask locals about best things to do or places to go. I bought an all inclusive ticket for me and my daughter to go to beach in Costa Maya and it was $75.00 for us to go to beach--all drinks were included, along with beach chairs and transport to and from beach. Service was not good, waited forever to get a drink! Talked to other tourists who traveled before, and they were going to beach for $3.00 each! I was a sucker!!! Food on ship was good. Wasn't a lot of activities for my 16 year old. There were 2 ping pong tables, and 2 sets of corn hole boards, and 9 hole mini golf. There were over 1000 people on ship, so you had to wait to play. My 10 year old enjoyed, but they had activities in Kentucky dd club for her! We will probably cruise again, but not on this ship--Carnival Sensation!
Trip hurricane week was fine. Carnival- Sensation ship made the best of things and we had no choice but to change itinerary but we were all safe and had glorious weather and an extra day at sea because port of Miami was closed. Entertainment on ship was good with comedians, contests and music for all. I liked the lounge with some latin band sizzle and got to practice our dance steps.
Ship is not a mega ship so only there is no choice of restaurants but very decent options on regular menu and we did make a menu upgrade for lobster. 1 night at additional cost. One adult pool and crowded on sea days but the number of jacuzzis adequate for # of people and getting relief from sun. We have experienced several ships and lines. The price point on this one was very reasonable and we were looking for moderate getaway and we are local. Give yourself some extra time with air travel or time in city.
Embarking was very easy and recommend early boarding and relax at pool and plenty of food. Nightmare was disembarking because of hurricane and very late communications on Miami port re-opening a day late. People pushing and shoving, many missed flights 2nd time, staff not well informed, The handicapped people "wheel chairs "were in a herd of madness and should have been given some priority or better exit plan. They had limitations to bathrooms, elevators and it was a miracle that no one got pushed down a flight of stairs or worse.
I choose the Sensation to have my wedding on. The wedding ceremony and the reception were great with a few minor glitches like the DJ whom we payed extra did not play the songs on my song list as instructed. My husband was going to serenade me but the DJ never played the song. He played the wrong song for our 1st dance and the removing of the guarder belt. We put alot of preparation into that playlist and was a bit disappointed when it wasn't followed. Also I was told by my wedding group organizer that my guest would receive a bottle of wind or a souvenir bag for being a part of my wedding group. I chose the bag because everyone does not drink. I informed them that no one received anything and I spent alot of time with the wedding reps on the shop and the individual in the candy shop and they could not come to a resolution. I had 18 guest sailing with your Cruise Line for my wedding and we spent a lot of money as a group. This was the least they could have done. When they looked up the bookings all the numbers were different which makes no since. I would like those bags delivered to my home so that I can distribute them as promised. As far as the cruise is concerned, the description fun ship was fulfilled. We had amazing fun. But the food on a scale of 1 to 10 was a 5. By that Tuesday, my stomach was sick and remained sick for the remainder of the cruise. My feet stayed swollen so bad that I could not get shoes on and I do not have this issue on a normal basis. 30 mins after each meal my stomach would get into to knots and I would get sick, On Friday I did not eat on the ship at all and my stomach did not bother me one bit. I have sailed about 3 other times on other lines and I never had to pay at dinner for food,. Lobster and filet mignon was a course for dinner including in the package. On your cruise I had to pay an additional 20.00. I thought this was absurd. I hope this review is helpful.
Great food, great service, comfortable staterooms. Great value. While the ship's decor was a bit dated, it was very clean. The restrooms were very clean and upgraded. I would recommend the Sensation as a ship with something for every age group.
Old ship could smell mildew mold on ship. Activities started late. Service lazy. Tips added in so they didn't care about catering to guests. Room cleaners did great job. Food was average. Did not enforce no glass around pool. Need more varieties of breakfast foods.
Bring a Power Strip (surge protector) - You'll probably only have a single 110v outlet in your cabin, bringing a power strip will allow you to charge multiple phones or laptops. *Note: Check with your cruise line if you have questions about what electrical devices are permitted.
