Sensation cruise didn't meet our expectations.

I have been on several cruises, this one was by far the worst.  There wasn't a lot of entertainment.  The food was extremely cold most of the nights and quality wasn't good; not even the lobster which cost an additional $20.

The excursions were the best I have done.

The food was good except the pizzas they were not very good or served in a timely fashion. Long waits for them at most times of the day or night.

The cruise itself was good, I did find that the Carnival was not up to its normal standards. Food was not at good. Little things like hairdryers in rooms, and ice in your room, not provided. The entertainment was not good at all.

Not Bad But Not Woderful

Key West was the highlight for me.  It's just a beautiful place!  Having been on 3 cruises before this one, I was a bit disappointed although I was extremely grateful to get away.  I believe the ship needs a major cleaning and the serving staff (Seaview) may need some instructions in hospitality.  The entertainment was extremely inclusive and I loved the talent displayed.  Another added delight was the movie time with blankets and popcorn.  I thoroughly enjoyed this!  Thank you to all of the crew and especially to Sean our Cabin assistant who was so accommodating to our needs.

So let me start with the staff and crew were great. They did everything to make the trip as pleasant as possible and treated all guests with a smile. My three year old loved Camp Carnival and all the activities they had planned for the kids. They had parties, cupcakes, art and crafts, and Dr. Seuss themed breakfast. Even I enjoyed that.

Now, for the trip itself...the ship left port almost two hours late to accommodate flights that had been delayed due to the airport closings. That's fine it waited but I drove from Atlanta to Miami because my flight was delayed/cancelled and I wanted to make sure I was there on time. So the ship leaves and not even twenty minutes later the captain says we will not be going to Jamaica but Cozumel instead because of the bad weather. My only thought at that time was, surely the captain knew this before we left the Miami port and how come we weren't offered an option to get off the ship. Nor did they offer the option to offer free wi-fi to contact family and/or friends to let them know of the changes.

The following day the ship was going soooo fast making the waters rough I think about 80% of the passengers were sea sick...if not more. I have never experienced sea sickness up until this trip. Needless to say day two of the itinerary at sea was TERRIBLE. Not only to mention the captain announces we will not be making it to Grand Cayman but instead Freeport Bahamas. Again no option of wi-fi to contact family and/or friends.

Cozumel was ok but very crowded. Freeport was a bust because the beach was too cold to enjoy plus the island is still damaged from Hurricane Matthew a few months ago.

Overall this trip gets a two from me...maybe even a two and a half. I may take Carnival again but I would have to be offered a GREAT deal.

Disappointed

this was my 5th Carnival cruise and I have to day I was disappointed - definitely did not meet my past expectations.

Pros:  Room steward was great - very friendly and present.

Staff from the behind the scene crew to the fun squad were always

friendly, always impressed with that kind of service

Cons:  Ship I understand is one of the oldest in the fleet but is in need of some

            TLC

Entertainment was sub par - this was my 5th carnival cruise, I am used

to Vegas level shows - these were more community theatre for the

evening - during the day there was very limited entertainment - other

cruises I was running from activity to activity - most of the day time

activity on this cruise was trivia

Food - I went to the salad bar every day for lunch because the regular

food lines were always way too long.  Used to seeing impressive food

carvings at buffets - NONE on this cruise

Drink service was slow - there were plenty of wait staff but not enough

            bartenders to accommodate

Unfortunately the weather was not the greatest for this trip - we were supposed to go to Jamaica and Grand Caymen but due to weather ports were changed to Cozumel and Freeport - while disappointed I appreciated the fact that they wanted us to get the most out of our trip and Jamaica's weather was cold and rainy so opted to go to a port that would be fairly warm and sunny

Excessive lines and bad food

Verified Review

My favorite part of the cruise was getting off the ship back in Miami for better food and entertainment. The lines for waiting for the sub-par food was excessive which caused my family to miss out on the limited amount of events that were available. Most events were a ruse to get more money out of cruisers. And there was no real partitioning of kids from adult areas as they basically ran the ship at night and made the cruise less attractive. The sports bar in particular did not have the NFL game on during the 2nd biggest football day of the year (Christmas) and the bar was not open. Staff themselves knew they were missing out on roughly $5K worth of drinks during that time.

Need to improve buffet food. Need to monitor the temperature on the ship. Need to limit smoking to the deck. Need to reduce the amount of shopping events on the ship.

Carnival Sensation

A bit of an older ship the crew is amazing as always and Grand Turk was beautiful! power snorkeling was sooo much fun and beautiful. The shows and entertainment ware great, but my least favorite part was the food. I have cruised carnival in the past and the food was much better, this time around the formal dining seemed to be a waste of time (the pizza and deli were amazing) upon my return my family said i lost weight (i guess it wasnt a complete disappointment!).

Bring a Power Strip (surge protector) - You'll probably only have a single 110v outlet in your cabin, bringing a power strip will allow you to charge multiple phones or laptops. *Note: Check with your cruise line if you have questions about what electrical devices are permitted.
