Worst cruise ever

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Sensation | Sail Date: Apr 16, 2015

Cabin surrounded by teenagers who stayed in the hallway talking and having a good time every night till 2:30 or 3:00 am ! Couldn't reach security on first night, they responded twice on second night to little avail, would not answer phone on third night!

Food was mediocre at best. Will never sail on that ship again!!

Wonderful Spring Break Getaway

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Sensation | Sail Date: Apr 09, 2015

The cruise was really nice and the staff was great.  Our dining in the ectasy dining room was superb.  Our waiter Sasho and his team was excellent.  Very nice and attentive.  My only cabin complaint was that the toilet surrounding smelled of urine but the rest of the cabin was fine.  Boarding and leaving the ship was smooth and organized.  The Administration band was fabulous (the singers are great) and so was the show.  My only complaint about the show was that the last night was a repeat of the first night so we left.  Overall the ship is a very nice ship.  Our teenage boys had a great time participating in the Club and bonded with many freinds whom they are still communicating with.

Great Value, very crowded

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Sensation | Sail Date: Apr 09, 2015

Overall the cruise was very fun.  The ship was very tacky but very clean.  I felt like I was in Las Vegas sometimes.  The food was very good and there was tons of it.  I really enjoyed the entertainment, especially the comedy shows.  I felt bombarded in Nassau and it was a bit overwhelming.  We found a guy driving a limo who charged us $25 per person for a tour of the island.  It was very fun.  he took us to a really cool market at the fort and to a place to buy conch fritters.  His name was Sydney.

The only thing that i found frustrating was that the cruise was very crowded.  The pool was almost overwhelming inmany ways because there were so many people.  The pool was very small and there ws only one pool.  It was almost impossible to get it without being kicked in the head by a kid.  I struggled to find a cool place to lay out near water that wasn't overwhelmingly loud or crowded.  Overall, it was a great vacation for the value and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an exciting, activity filled vacation.

Saint Mary's Ryken (SMRHS) Senior Spring Break April 2015 for my Son Jamil

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Sensation | Sail Date: Apr 09, 2015

Loads of fun - the live band Administration was awesome.  I went each evening to see them.  They performed well together.  The drummer, keyboard, guitarist are a perfect chemistry.  They had everyone dancing, singing and enjoying themselves.  The Broadway show was really good.  The only thing I will point out is that the third night was a repeat of the first night.  I didn't stay - and recommend having three different shows for each night.  Other than that they are absolutely fantastic.

The comedy show was great - just too much profanity for my personal taste.  Of course I didn't have to go, and decided not to for the later shows which was rated R through X.  Although he is an excellent comedian.

My son enjoyed Nassa and wen to Paradise Island to enjoy Atlantis.  Beautiful property and he loved it.  Took plenty of pictures with the infamous Gold Chair in the lounge area of the Royal Towers.

Great job Carnival - second time sailing with you (first time on the Glory which was only three months old the time my family and I sailed in 2003) and again, you did a beautiful job.  Although the ship is a lot older than when we sailed on the Carnival Glory back in 2003, Carnival refurbishment made the ship a lot nicer and it does not appear to be a 20 year old ship.

Kudos to Carnival.  Look forward to sailing with you again.

Guest - Karen and Jamil April 2015 (Senior Spring Break - SMRHS)

fun but overpriced.

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Sensation | Sail Date: Apr 05, 2015

If you have never been on a cruise before it is something you should definitely try. It is a fun experience. However a few tips when riding Carnival Sensation.. 1. They charge for everything and everything is overpriced! They definitely scam you. 2. They allow you to bring water/soda with you- do it. The water they supply taste horrible. If you don't drink that, they charge you for their good/ bottled water. Again, overpriced. 3. If you want to drink alcohol, drinks are very expensive. They give you a chance to buy an unlimited cheers program for $50 a day. The catch, you must buy for every day and everyone in your cabin must get one-even if one person wants to drink. 4. The excursions are fun but overpriced. You can wait til you get on the island and there are personal vendors selling the same thing for much cheaper. Going to a beach? Get a taxi not an excursion. 5. The entertainment isn't bad. You have to pay for some of it- again overpriced. 6. The food is pretty good. It's very presentable and you can eat as much as you need. 7. The staff is very nice and helpful. Rooms were cleaned 2 times a day and they leave cute animal towels 8. There is only one outlet in your room. 9. They take LOTS of pictures.. But the price to buy is .. You've guessed it overpriced. We bought 2 eligant pictures 8x11- $43. Overall, fun trip. Nassau is beautiful- Freeport is run down. Bring your own drinks, expect to spend a lot on boat/ for excursions. You'll have fun.

come on people

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Sensation | Sail Date: Apr 02, 2015

It's not that the line is bad, rather it's the behavior of much of the clientele that is simply appalling.

Pros:

Room- we were booked into an obstructed view balcony on the 11th floor (veranda level). The room was quite spacious with adequate closet space. On one occasion the room smelled of cigarette smoke in the late afternoon on day 2, but no reason why as the balcony door was never left open by us. The shower could certainly use conditioner, but all in all not the end of the world to only have shampoo. The robes were in good shape, but it would have been nice to have slippers too.

Room Steward- we received fantastic service from Ada, anything that we needed or requested was delivered promptly and with an enormous smile. In the end we gave her an additional tip for the fantastic service.

Spa Service- we got a 75 minute couples massage and quite thoroughly enjoyed it. Both of our therapists did a fantastic job, and weren't pushy about selling product.

Cons:

Service in the main restaurant - unfortunately I don't possess the vocabulary to accurately describe just how pitiful the service was. We had 3 different waiters in total (1 each night), and in hindsight our first waiter provided the "best" service of the 3. I don't know if it was because we typically arrived after 9pm but before the end of service which was 930, and they were just exhausted from the day or if that is just typical service. I'll give you some anecdotes. On the first night we arrived at 915 and we're promptly seated where we would then wait for 12 minutes to be greeted by anyone resembling waitstaff. We brought our own champagne to dinner (well aware of the very reasonable  $15 corking fee), and when we were finally greeted by our waiter it was with the following "We charge you to drink that here" as opposed to any of the other typical greetings like "good evening or "welcome". Again in hindsight I'd rate him as our best waiter of the trip which is frankly condemning of the service we received in the dining room. On the 2nd night we arrived at basically the same time, however there was a 20 minute wait to be seated, which isn't a big deal but it would've been nice if the hostesses would have taken our bottle of champagne and kept it on ice. Once we were seated we waited even longer for our waiter to show up. While waiting the server with the tray of various shots inquired if we wanted something to drink and we informed him that we had our own bottle and would like to have it put on ice. His reply "that's not my department" classic. I still don't know how one should respond to that. Our waiter was so bad that he didn't charge for corking. I want to believe it was because he recognized the service was so lousy and it was his way of apologizing for it. On the 3rd night we assumed that the service really couldn't do anything else but go up, and were we ever surprised to see that we were completely wrong. Our waiter was quite the multi-tasker as he somehow managed to take our order and the table next to us at the same time. How is that possible you might ask? Well let me try to paint the picture. We're seated for 20 minutes before our waiter shows up, and in the meantime another couple gets seated next to us so when the hostess seats them and realizes that we don't even have a glass of water she runs down our waiter. He sauntered over and figured why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I'd imagine that they thought they got timely service, in spite of the waiter taking both our order and their order simultaneously. Since we didn't have anything in particular to do afterwards these 3 dinners didn't ruin any plans or disrupt our evening we found it quite comical that the service was so "lacking."

Lunch - we weren't expecting anything gourmet, and found the "best" food was found at the sandwich place between the pizza station and bar. The lines were atrocious, but worse than the lines were the blatant disregard for the signage which asks for people to wear shoes and clothing during lunch. Either far too many people on this cruise were illiterate or simply didn't bring anything to wear other than there swimsuits and of course didn't own any type of footwear at all. I also found it surprising how many people felt that using their e-cigarette at the table was appropriate during lunch. My favorite experience during lunch was our encounter with "the employee of the month". Please allow me to expound on this encounter. So we're finishing up lunch and said employee comes through the corridor with her broom and dustpan in hand, and she notices a half eaten hot dog on the floor under the table next to us.  She gently sweeps the aforementioned hot dog out from under the table, and rather than sweeping it up into the dustpan she simply swept it into the corner and left it there. We then wondered aloud how long that hot dog would remain in the corner, and we finally concluded that the hot dog must have misbehaved terribly to end up there. I'm not sure why so many people felt the need to grab a plate or cup and then put it back. I really think that it would be wise to bring along your own personal hand sanitizer if you have any issues with mysophobia or just get really drunk so the alcohol can kill any germs.

Overall we felt that the food service was simply lousy, but the food was edible which isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

Smoking- I'm not sure if we were on a smoking specialty cruise, but we found it difficult to understand why so many people were smoking in areas that were not designated smoking areas. We especially found it a bit disturbing to find the group of 14 people openly smoking marijuana at the waterslide. Granted the waterslide was closed at that time but you'd think that people might want to be a bit more discreet, and no I'm not a prohibitionist about this plant. I'd just prefer it to be consumed in a more private area.

Indifferences:

Spa facilities- they weren't overly inviting, but at least they weren't dirty. I believe the appropriate description would be "run down".

Carnival Sentation - Bahamas

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Sensation | Sail Date: Apr 02, 2015

I'll start off by saying that we had very low expectations due to a previous Carnival cruise.  We thought it would be about the same.  The original plan was to stay in our room on the balcony and enjoy the water.  It was still Spring Break and figured there would be drunks all around us.  However, when boarding, we noticed lots of families!  (much better than college drunks)   Our cabin was adequate (a bit small for a balcony room) but it had tons of storage unlike a previous cruise.  Therefore, this would be a nice ship for a longer cruise.  The food was good.  The service was impeccable.  The entertainment was good.  We saw the comedian (last name Little) and we saw the young man performing at the mid-ship bar.  He was pretty amazing.  We were at the very back of the ship on Empressa.  One flight up was Serenity.  One flight up after that was the buffet.  Needless to say, we didn't stray too much from that area.  We did go to the main dining room twice.  It was good.  The wait staff was pleasant.  The ship is a bit old.  Not sure when it will be retired.

It was ok.

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Sensation | Sail Date: Mar 29, 2015

Surprised   This was my second cruise.  My first cruise was on Royal Caribbean.  Compared to RC, the quality of food and entertainment was inferior. Like this time, I would go again if it fit our timing.

Had a great Time

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Sensation | Sail Date: Mar 29, 2015

Just returned from a 4 night cruise to Freeport and Nassau. The weather was perfect. My wife and I bought the "faster to the fun" option (around $50 for both) that was WELL worth the investment. We stayed at the Radisson Port Canaveral with the Cruise and Park Package. (again well worth it). They shuttled us to the Ship and we waited about 30min before we boarded. We were in a deck chair with a drink within 1.5 hours of leaving the hotel! The waitstaff is a tad pushy when it comes to selling you alcohol but id did settle down a bit as the cruise went on. You MUST book a day excursion when going to Freeport if you want to get off the ship. Do this in advance of leaving on the Carnival web site and your tickets will be delivered to your room. If you just walk off the ship there is only a small touristy area that will take about 15min to see. You CAN take a cab to the beach or somewhere but that may be a little risky. We took the Island Tour. Not too bad for what the place is. Keep in mind that the cruise lines are he MAIN means of support for the locals so lots of the stuff to buy is typical hats, bags, coconut monkey stuff. Keep an open mind and just enjoy the one your with. Enjoy the good and laugh at the bad. Back on the ship at 4pm and taking off by 5:30pm. All the set down dinners were good. Do the "anytime" seating (5:45 - 9pm) and you won't have to stress out about getting ready for your dinner time. The food is the same. Arrived in Nassau about 7am. Get up and watch the sunrise, you have the rest of your life to sleep. Breakfasts were very good. Coffee....not so great if you don't like it STRONG! I loved it! We did the Discover Atlantis excursion. If you get up early you can get off the hip and go into town past the harassing rude tour sales people(ignore them) and see the town a little before you go back to the pavilion located just as you get off the ship to start your tour. Plan on walking A LOT!  Wear good shoes NOT flip-flops. Had a great time. The tour guide was informative and the Hotel is outrageous. You get a couple hours at the end to look around by yourselves. Go to the beach. Back on the ship by 5pm and out of the harbor by 7pm. Our room was what we expected.(inside cabin Bclass) We spent little time in there so we didn't worry about it too much. Went to (and participated in) a few shows, piano bar lady was a riot, even threw some $$ away at Bingo just for grins. Didn't gamble at all so I can't say anything other than the casino was much bigger than I expected and didn't seem to be filled up at all. When we returned to port we were off the ship at 7:30am (took our own luggage) and on the beach at Jetty Point by 8:40am. REALLY!  Faster To The Fun worked again! If you have never taken this cruise I would do it. Would I repeat it? Nope, I don't watch movies twice either.

I did notice that the people with small children were NOT HAVING A GOOD TIME!    Don't do it. Wait until they can do things by themselves! The "over 21 section at the back of the ships a nice place to get away from the screaming and loud music.
