Booking through with the travel agent Ian for our anniversary went very smoothly and we were happy about receiving onboard credit for being returning passengers. However, were are still very upset about Carnival not warning its passengers about certain ports, specifically Jamaica. Although Carnival provides excursions for purchase aboard the vessel, not everyone chose to take an excursion immediately upon docking at the port. Many people, including ourselves, had a horrible experience with the locals in Jamaica. Travelers were extorted for money and personal effects by the locals.
Before arriving in Jamaica, we had approached the Fun Desk and took their recommendations to visit the Taj Mahal and Diamonds International. When we got off the cruise ship, we were immediately followed by locals who kept demanding money from us for being on their island. To avoid all the people demanding payment from us and to stop them from following us, we took a taxi to Diamonds International. However, the taxi driver took us far into the hills and extorted us for most of our money. He would not allow us to get out of the taxi and he also flagged down other locals to keep us from going anywhere. For as much as we have traveled, we have never felt so fearful for our lives. Knowing we would not be able to walk back to the ship and our lives would be in jeopardy if we chose to do so, we both knew we had to pay the taxi driver. From the mountains, he finally took us to the edge of the tourist area. However, by then, we did not have enough money to purchase Tanzanite nor anything else, which was repetitively encouraged aboard Carnival Sensation. We started our walk to the Taj Mahal, where we were again followed and harassed for the last of our money. In Jamaica, we spent our entire budget which we had saved for both Jamaica and Grand Cayman, all without having eaten or done any activities or excursions.
Carnival should have provided a disclaimer for all the passengers, especially knowing that this is not the first time this has happened, from what other Carnival crew members have told us after leaving Jamaica. Carnival did not have to discourage people from going to Jamaica, but they should have taken it upon themselves to warn people before arriving in Jamaica. Additionally, Carnival should have arranged for Jamaican officials and Carnival staff to safely guide travelers off the ship to the recommended shops and locations. This is not to discourage people from going to Jamaica, but this is to provide a much needed warning for people intending to get off the cruise ship at Jamaica. People should be warned that if they are getting off the ship, to only stay within eye sight of the ship. Although all the shops recommended by Carnival are nearby, within a few blocks of walking, the locals will extort travelers for money and will not desist until they have what they demand.
The staff was very nice and accommodating. However, there were a few areas that need to be addressed. Our steward would knock on the door and just come in. My wife was in bed when she hear a knock on the door. She asked who it was and the lady steward just walked in to hand her a letter. Couldn't this have been slipped under the door? I'm not sure how we ended up with a handicapped bathroom, but would definitely not want one again. We weren't given an option and was surprised. Water went everywhere! The only thing to stop the water from going all over the floor was towel! The food was ok. I've had better food on other Carnival ships.
THE ONLY COMPLAINT I HAVE WOULD BE THE FOOD QUALITY WAS NOT VERY GOOD. WE HAD DINNER IN THE DINING ROOM AND THE BAKED POTATOES WERE HARD AND USUALLY WHAT WAS SERVED WAS COLD. WE CAME TO FIND OUT THAT WHAT THEY WERE SERVIHNG IN THE DINING ROOM WAS THE SAME THING THEY WERE SERVING IN THE BUFFET LINE UPSTAIRS WHICH WAS HOT. GO FIGURE.
There isn't one thing that I can pick out! From the moment we arrived on the ship until the end it was amazing. The crew and staff was amazing, always so friendly and helpful, and they keep the ship so clean. The food was always great even though during busy times the lines can get long, but it worth the wait. Room service was quick and easy. The ports are beautiful. Grand Turks is so peaceful, and welcoming. We will definitely be cruising with carnival again.
Cruise was amazing From beginning to end. All staff was so helpful n friendly with many smiling faces every time. The ports were so beautiful. Entertainment, on point, never a dull moment. Loved the Fun Times everyday, very useful and helpful, great idea. The only part about my cruise that was bad For me was getting a cold sore, human nature but I had to pay couldn't use my military medical insurance. Not sure of all the logistics with that but I wish there was a way that you could use your insurance and not have to worry about paying cash for things that may happen n out of your control. Lastly, I won bingo 500 dollars!!!! I would definitely recommend Carnival Cruises to anyone, I've already done so with my friends and family!! If you are thinking of going on a cruise, think Carnival, you won't be let down, trust me!!!
This was my wife and I's first ever cruise and we had a great time. We were alittle nervous about going on the carnival sensastion because it is an older ship but it was the only one we could find for the time frame we needed because of our work schedules. We both were glad we did, the ship was great, all the employees of carnival were so friendly and had such great attitudes, and the food was awesome. And if you like being around friendly people a cruise is the way to go, everyone was so friendly. We could've had a better trip. And a specially thank you to the crew of the Carnival Sensation, Bart and Ashley Gainesville GA.
All three Islands were great. I would love if the Carnival offers FREE Wi-Fi & Soda.. Entertainment shows weren't great. Repetitive food. Long lines on Grill. Burgers were tasty. Don't try Steak, tasteless.
Bring a Power Strip (surge protector) - You'll probably only have a single 110v outlet in your cabin, bringing a power strip will allow you to charge multiple phones or laptops. *Note: Check with your cruise line if you have questions about what electrical devices are permitted.
