Carnival Cruise Lines Cruise Reviews

These boisterous ships woo party animals, as well as fun-loving families and singles, with constant entertainment (think poolside hairy chest contests, after-hours comedians, buckets of beer, plenty of activities for kids) and increasingly impressive food, including burgers by Food Network star Guy Fieri. Carnival has begun to host onboard concerts by big-name performers — including Jennifer Hudson, Chicago, Jewel, and Leann Rimes — on regular sailings and has partnered with Dr. Seuss Enterprises for themed story hours and kid-friendly "Cat in the Hat" brunches.

Fun and worth it

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Inspiration | Sail Date: Apr 07, 2014

We love cruises.  This one was with 5 kids and others.  The kids all had their "clubs" with activities to attend...or not.  The pools and other activities kept them busy...not to mention the food!  The shows are always fun.  We loved the piano bar guy at night.  We had our own ritual of ending each night with pizza and ice cream at 1 AM or whenever - bring some antacids!

Cruiselines don't want you to say this (or probably cruises.com, either), but unless you really appreciate the simplicity and convenience of ordering excursions on the ship for many times the actual cost, don't do it.  With a little bit of research online, we found a great zip line and hanging bridges park call Las Cañadas Campamento about a half hour outside of Ensenada on the main road that leads out of town.  With another bit of research and a couple phone calls, we found a taxi service (Taxis Amarillas (yellow taxis)) to take us there.  Check this out: the zip line and hanging bridge place came out to only $20 USD per person - it was VERY worth it for 60 - 90 minutes of zipping and balancing.  The cab was $10 per person round trip - they take you there, wait for you, and take you back.  Again, very worth it.

At Catalina - a quaint little tourist trap - we just walked up the main road to the botanical gardens and Wrigley memorial.  We got good weather, so it was a nice walk about 2 miles one way.  Pretty place.  We didn't choose to spend our money there.  It's California, after all...just happens to be a pretty island with lots of golf carts.

Like any cruise, it's mostly about the company, the food, the entertainment, how you spend your money, and your choice to be involved and take advantage of the offerings.  The only thing that would make this and any cruise better is more time for less cost. :-)

The only negative - took too long to serve the dinner meals (up to 90 minutes).

Great value, wonderful trip!

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Ecstasy | Sail Date: Apr 07, 2014

Had a great experience on this trip. Carnival has always been my favorite cruise line, but I hadn't sailed on this ship previously. One night we had rough weather at sea, but not Carnival's fault. Clean room every day, awesome food, wonderful service! Can't beat it! I'll definitely be back!

Not Good

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Triumph | Sail Date: Apr 06, 2014

Unless you like to party all day & night every day, it"s not for you. The entertainment was not fit most of the time for the under 21 & the rest of the not party people. R & X rated. The food was the best part of the cruise. They should be ashamed to port at Progresso, Mexico. No toilet seats or toilet paper in the restrooms & filthy.& you have to pay to use them. It makes your skin crawl just being there. We had to learn the hard way because no one told us.We went on 2 other cruises before & they wew both great, intertainment on those ships were awesome.

It is was a great cruise for first timers

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Imagination | Sail Date: Apr 06, 2014

It was our first time cruising so we didn't know what to expect. My main concern was the motion of the boat since I get motion sickness easily but it was not an issue during the trip. Our stateroom was at the front of the ship and the swaying was noticeable only the last night we were cruising back to Long Beach as we were sailing rather quickly.

The accomodations were larger than I had expected. We had an inside stateroom with no window but it was a large room and had so much closet space. It was perfect for two people. I would not recommend more than 2 people for a stateroom. The king size bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was small but adequate. You don't really spend a lot of time in your room either way.

The activities were fun but there weren't many activities during our day at sea which was disappointing since you are on the ship the whole day. The morning and afternoon were a bit boring during our day at sea and the jacuzzi and pools were teeming with kids. The adults only serenity deck was full because everyone was trying to get away from the kids. Our activities highlights included: The George Lopez comedy shows (both comedians killed), the Hasbro Game Show, Bingo, Lovers game show, Hairy chest contest. The Mexican Fiesta night was lacking energy but I suspect it's because everyone was sober. You can only gamble in the Casino when in international waters so the first and second night we weren't allowed to gamble. George, the cruise director, is a riot as well as the australian gentlement, I forget his name.

The food was great, especially breakfast in the Lido buffet but their desserts were not good. Their desserts were lacking in taste and I was dying for some cheesecake or chocolate cake but they did not offer either. The Taste Bar has some really good treats and the Deck Grill was good for some lunch, burgers, fries, hardshell tacos, nachos etc. I would definitely recommend to always eat (at least dinner) in the Pride dinning room as the quality of the food is much better and the waiters are amazing and so nice. You can try just about anything on the menu and they'll bring it out for you. We did not have one meal we did not like in the Pride dining room and we were adventurous enough to try the escargot and frog legs. I think we sampled just about everything since the portions are small you can split 2-3 entrees, appetizers and deserts between two people and be satisfied.

We had a great time in Catalina kayaking and even had seals and dolphins swim next to us which was awesome. In Ensenada we booked our excursions through outside parties and went zip lining, took a trip to go see La Bufadora or "blowhole" and did a lot of shopping, eating, and drinking. If you like drinking alcoholic beverages I recommend drinking off the boat as you will get way more bang for your buck than on the ship. On the ship beers were about $4-6 and cocktails $7-9 not including the 15% tip that is added to your order. Ensenada is a party town so take advantage of their $1-2 beers, $2 tequila shots, $4 margaritas specials at just about any bar/restaurant you go to.

Older ship; great food and service, rocky travels.

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Paradise | Sail Date: Apr 05, 2014

Service and food was fabulous!  Older ship was a little rocky in 8-10 ft waves and strong winds.  Pool small.  Hot tubs were lukewarm.  TV's are older;  tube television set.  Picture was dark and no sound on movie due to set.  But whose on cruise to watch tv!

Carnival Victory Cruise

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Victory | Sail Date: Apr 05, 2014

First time, wasnt sure what to expect, was dissappointed. Pros, the dining room meals were excellent, the room was great, the service was outstanding. Cons, the pools were so small, filled to the brim with kids, everything cost and was expensive, bingo, drinks, pictures. We were only in Jamacia for 5 hours, the lines to get off the ship were horrendous. I guess I am to active of a person to enjoy a cruise. Will go back to an all inclusive resort.

Had a great time, room had a bad smell, food lines to long

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Ecstasy | Sail Date: Apr 04, 2014

The food lines where long and some people where eating in the line while they where getting the food

it was really gross.  The room had a bad smell,  half of the staff could not speak good English, the pool was really small and crowded.   The kids slides where ok but they would get stuck half way down and really slow going, they said that they where not much fun and this is one of the reasons we picked this cruise was for the kids slides and play area.   I give it a 4 out of 10

Most enjoyed vacation ever!

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Imagination | Sail Date: Apr 03, 2014

We had a wonderful time! I wish I could afford to go more often. Maybe next year.

Thank you Carnival for making our vacation so memorable! The rooms were immaculate and the crew was very helpful. I also enjoyed the great many choices of where to eat. The food was the best.

Too many kids in the pool all the time and in late evening hours activities

small verified icon Verified Review | Ship: Carnival Sensation | Sail Date: Apr 03, 2014

The pool should be two....one for the kids and one for the adult. Activities especially after 10 pm should not include kids. Singing contests should be one for the children and one for the adult.
