Good value for the money

Ship: Costa Magica
Sail Date: May 20, 2013

Good points about the cruise: Cabin attendant was outstanding. Waiters were very good and entertaining. The ship was modern and very clean. Tours were well done. Neutral points: Had to skip Santorini due to high winds. Food was good but not great. One night the on-board singers substituted for the acrobatic show. Bad points: None

Great destinations but the experiences on board the ship were lacking

Ship: Costa Magica
Sail Date: May 13, 2013

We chose this cruise because of the destinations and they were great. However, the on-board experience was not up to the standards of other cruise experiences we've had. Our balcony room was great and our cabin steward did a very nice job as did our servers in the dining room. Communications were not good - for example, we didn't get the message about needing to get our passports before arriving at Dubrovnik in a timely manner and found our about it by word of mouth at dinner. We were in our room until 6:30 pm when we went to dinner and had not received the sheet stating that we needed to pick them up between 6pm and 8pm. We were told by our tablemates at 7:45pm that if we didn't get our passports by 8pm, we would not be able to go ashore at Dubrovnik. We left our food to run to the 5th floor to get them. A crew member at the elevator told us to go to the 3rd floor so we went there and there we were told to go to the 5th floor after all. We got there right before 8pm and then w...

Only use if no other choice available

Ship: Costa Mediterranea
Sail Date: Apr 09, 2013

Babies and toddlers everywhere from second seating dinner to the gym to cannon balling in the jacuzzi. Parents don't say anything and neither does the Costa staff. Dinners are very Italian, food and service which we knew in advance and did enjoy. Breakfast and lunch food quality were poor- Hometown Buffet is truly what it was like. There are time periods in the middle of the day 1/2 an hour to an hour where there is no food service but scant slices of pizza available. lastly, We had to pack and vacate our room 3 1/2 hours before reaching port (they plan it this way to get a head start on room cleaning and prep for the next guest). My jacket was lost and was never to be found again during this time-thank you Costa. Keep your belongings with you at all times, double check your things yourself.

Never travel on Costa Fascinosa

Ship: Costa Fascinosa
Sail Date: Apr 07, 2013

This was the worst cruise I have ever taken. The ports were great but the ship was terrible. I did not like the food they served and the service they provided was not up to par. It took 12 hrs just for someone to fix my toilet. The entertainment they provided was not interesting. Wish they had more to do on the ship. I spoke with other passengers and they said that they did not enjoy this cruise either. They cruise other cruise lines and said this one was the worst. If your only wanting to see the ports then this is for you. I did love the ports but a couple of times they were late getting this set up so that took away time in the ports. Check in was a nightmare, everything was disorganized.

The cruising was fine the check in and checking out terrible

Ship: Costa Magica
Sail Date: Apr 01, 2013

We have sailed many times and the embarcation to the Costa Magica was the worst!! Wait in lines, wait in lines, wait in lines and basicily do nothing! Everything could have been done with more people checking you in and doing everything at one time. The cruise was very nice and the food service was fair. The entertainment was the best we have ever seen anywhere ( 5 Stars) Our room staff was just great but the waiter at dinner and the wait staff else where needs lessons in nice. The ports were very interesting and we had a good time on our own. Didn't try the excursions. Then we had to pick-up our passports on the morning of our disembarcation, oh what a mess! We waited over 2 hours in line ( and we were at the front of the line) to get passports no excuse for this irriatation.

Christmas Holiday

Ship: Costa Deliziosa
Sail Date: Dec 21, 2012

I decided to go on a cruise for Christmas. My sister and I chose this one. We were impressed with the cabin service. Our room was always clean and made up. The ship was also very clean. That is where it ended. After paying a large amount for the cruise we were nickled and dimed the whole trip. We had to pay for non-alcoholic and internet. The internet was so poor that it took forever to log in and log out using up all the time. In all everything was way over priced. In addition to things being over priced, we were required to pay gratuity. It didn't matter whether we receive good service or not.

Overview of Costa Cruises

What We Love

  • Among the lowest cruise fares in the industry.
  • Large standard staterooms holding up to four people (184-240 sq. feet).
  • Passengers from many countries, especially on the Europe cruise.

What to Expect

  • Passengers range from tots to retired folks; during school vacation periods you'll find many families with children.
  • Outside the Caribbean, 80% of passengers are European; announcements and shore excursions are conducted in five languages.
  • High-energy décor with expansive areas for entertainment, nightlife, children’s programs and spa/fitness facilities.
  • On Caribbean cruises, where the majority of passengers are North American, not all officers and crew speak English.
  • Poor to average food and service.
  • Many room stewards don't speak English
  • Moulin Rouge-style stage shows, cabaret, a lively casino, and disco. A lot of themed nights, including Italian night, Mediterranean night and Toga night.

The Fine Print

Alcohol Policy: No alcohol may be brought aboard ship.

Dress Code: Informal "resort casual" dress in public areas on most nights; two formal nights per week (suit or tux for men and evening/cocktail dresses for women).

Gratuities: $11.50 per person, per day charged to account covers room steward, waiter and other service staff tips.

Children's Program: Programs include kids’ menus in the dining room, arts and crafts, parties, Italian language lessons and babysitting.

Smoking Policy: Smoking is banned in staterooms (including private balconies), and is only permitted on deck and in specified lounges.

Onboard Activities: Dance classes, Italian language classes, cooking lessons, deck and pool games.
